WASHTO communicated its interests and concerns about a proposal to modify federal limits on truck configuration, weight and length to the Western Governors Association (WGA). WASHTO members are divided on modifying the limits, but are united about the concerns and possible impacts of modifications. WGA may consider taking a position at its June 27-29 annual meeting on modifying the federal limits.

The attached is a copy of a letter, hand delivered by WASHTO President Paula Hammond to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on December 3, 2009 at the White House jobs summit. The letter encourages Secretary LaHood to hold a meeting in a western rural state to learn more about our unique transportation needs and challenges.

WASHTO recently passed a resolution expressing concern about provisions contained in the Surface Transportation Authorization Act of 2009 (Resolution 02-09) The resolution authorized letters be sent to the Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Rep. James Oberstar, and the Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood. Those letters can be read here:
